Rabbi Bensoussan was born to parents who are great descendents of Rashi and Rabenu Tam. He is a descendent of Rebbi Yehudah Ha Nasi Bensoussan, the Rebbi of the great Rambam (Maimonides) from Spain, and a thousand years long rabbinical dynasty. Rabbi Bensoussan is the son of Rav Eliyahu Shimon Bensoussan of Casablanca Morocco, head Rabbi of the Sefardi community of Lyon, France, and author of many sfarim on the Chumash, brit milah, shaelot & tshuvot on many different topics, and a special sefer on Jewish education. He is a grand son of Rav Chaim D. Bensoussan, the former Av Bet Din and Chief Rabbi of Morocco, in Casablanca. He is also the great grandson of Rav Avraham Bensoussan, the Av Bet Din of Morocco, in Mogadore.
Rabbi Avraham Bensoussan is a graduate of Mirrer Yeshivah of Brooklyn, N.Y. and was awarded smichah from the Rabanut of Israel.
Rabbi Bensoussan earned his Masters Degree from the University of Detroit and Educational Specialist (E.D.S.) from Wayne State University.
Rabbi Bensoussan introduced the use of computers in Jewish education in Cleveland in the late 1970's. He also has brought, administered, and supervised the first outreach programs in Hebrew and Judaic studies to Cleveland and five Cleveland suburbs.
Additionally, Rabbi Bensoussan started the first special Jewish educational program for mentally challenged teens of high school age. He initiated a "Big brother" program for elementary school age boys.
Rabbi Bensoussan opened a special Hebrew school for the Soviet children in the '80's, the first of its kind.
He is also the former president of the Educational Directors Council of the Hebrew schools of Cleveland and the Orthodox Rabbinical Council of Cleveland.
